Our Approach
Globally, Gamuda is known for excellence in safety, engineering innovation and the delivery of major infrastructure projects.
Enabling Work
At Gamuda, we know that the best work comes from collaboration, communication, and working as a single, united team that strives for excellence—day in, day out. Which is exactly what Enabling Work has been designed to achieve.
Safety
Gamuda is globally recognised for excellence in safety – nothing is more important than the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, contractors and communities. Safety is one of our core values, and part of who we are and what we do every day. It underpins our “Enabling Work” approach.
- Sword of Honour in 2019, 2020 and 2022
- International Safety Award (with distinction) in 2019 for MRT Putrajaya Line
- Five Star Occupational Health & Safety (OSH) Audit in 2018 & 2019
- International Safety Award (with distinction) in 2015 for MRT Kajang Line
Engineering Innovation
Gamuda has been globally recognised for developing innovative engineering solutions. From the world’s first autonomous tunnel boring machine to the world’s first dual function tunnel for both traffic and stormwater (SMART).
We don’t just deliver solutions – we use innovative engineering to invent them.
Gamuda Australia’s Seeds for Growth
Gamuda’s approach has always been to operate responsibly in terms of environmental, social, and corporate governance factors.
Gamuda Berhad expresses this commitment within the Gamuda Green Plan.
In Australia, the strategy has been localised within a sustainability framework called ‘Seeds for Growth’ which is consistent with Gamuda Berhad’s overall approach. It is anchored around four key areas:
- Circular construction
- Collaborating for change
- Empowering people
- Responsible business
Reconciliation
By improving our understanding and establishing genuine connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, businesses and communities, we can create better opportunities for equitable employment and business engagement across our projects.
As part of our journey towards reconciliation, Gamuda launched its first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2021, endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.
To help us communicate our commitment, we commissioned artwork from Wakka Wakka man David Williams from Indigenous creative agency Gilimbaa. Symbolising our reconciliation journey, the story within the artwork captures our active support for a better and more equitable future and Gamuda’s long-term commitment to Australia.
Local Partnerships
At Gamuda, we believe in creating social value for local communities through partnerships that foster collaboration.
By 2022 there will be the need for 500 specially trained TBM tunnelling crew in projects across Australia. Our mission is to invest in and train specialist TBM crew members in tunnelling academies here in Australia, as we have done in Asia, working with our community education partners to make this happen.
To this end, in late 2020 Gamuda signed MoUs with Registered Training Organisations HSAS and TAFE NSW as prospective delivery partners.
